Averitt Air Becomes First and Only Nashville-based Charter Company Authorized to Fly into Reagan National in D.C.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 29, 2010) --- Averitt Air is Nashville’s first and only charter company to be approved by the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) to operate private flights originating at Nashville International Airport (BNA) and arriving at Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in Washington, D.C. since September 11, 2001.
General aviation flights have not been allowed to land at DCA since flight activity was terminated due to the 9-11 terrorist attacks. In July 2005, TSA began accepting applications for access to DCA. Prior to September 11, 2001, Reagan National handled an average of 122 general aviation flights daily. While the TSA currently limits the number of arrivals per day to 24 and departures are limited to 24 per day at DCA, the airport handled only an annual total of 130 general aviation flights in 2009.
“TSA approval to operate flights originating from BNA and arriving at DCA allows us to offer a significant benefit to our local business community,” said Steve Gregory, Averitt Air’s Executive Vice President. “Averitt Air is the first – and the only – charter company to receive TSA approval to operate flights originating at Nashville International Airport and flying into Reagan National.”
“Because Reagan National’s location is so close to many top destinations in Washington D.C., such as the Capitol and the White House, it eliminates the hassle of dealing with traffic delays and can save up to two hours of commute-time for our passengers,” added Gregory.
Including Signature Flight Support at BNA in Nashville, there are only 30 gateway airports with approval to operate flights arriving at Reagan National. And, it is a strong testament to Averitt Air’s high standards of safety, security and customer service to be the only Nashville-based charter air company that is TSA approved to operate flights from BNA to DCA.
While flights into DCA require several TSA-mandated security precautions, the flight crews at Averitt Air have participated in extensive training in preparation for the flights into DCA. Passengers can expect the same smooth and convenient travel experience that they receive with any other Averitt Air charter flight.
Even with the TSA security requirements, the convenience of flying into Reagan National from Nashville still saves passengers almost two hours of driving time to commute into and out of the city and offers a time-and-cost-efficient travel option for executives who conduct business in Washington D.C.
